Claude is Watermarking Everything Now

Anthropic just made official something I've assumed for years: AI-generated content carries watermarks.

Starting with Claude models launched on or after August 2, 2026, every text output carries an invisible watermark in the words themselves. Every Claude product, worldwide, and the docs mention no way to turn it off.

While everyone freaks out, here's my honest take: the watermark is not the threat.

Three things worth knowing:

• A watermark only proves Claude touched the content, not that Claude wrote it. Anthropic's own docs call detection "not fully conclusive."
• Google and Bing algorithms currently do not penalize watermarked content. Their spam policies target content patterns, "no matter how it's created."
• Don't try to strip the watermarks. Quality-destroying "humanizer" rewrites create exactly the unhelpful content Google does penalize.

AI Content ≠ AI Slop

So what should you actually watch? Slop patterns. And AI didn't invent them. Content farms shipped human slop for decades before ChatGPT existed.

Google penalizes scaled content abuse: clusters of pages that look mass-produced, no matter who wrote them. The tells are specific and measurable.

• Publish bursts: A wall of posts all sharing one date reads as machine cadence to Google, and to any human who checks your blog.

Run those three checks on your own content before you spend one minute worrying about a watermark.
