Astra vs Fable on 3 Real Jobs

Every time a new model ships it gets the same first job from me: redesign my landing pages that drive revenue.

This week GPT-6 Astra and Fable 5.1 both got it, plus two more real jobs. Same prompts, same afternoon, and my podcast guest (Aaron Makelky) graded all three with me.

Here's the honest version from my test results:

• The design job: Fable stayed on brand, Astra ignored it. Both got one line: make a better landing page for conversions. Fable kept my colors and pushed more contrast into the buttons. Astra changed the colors, added my logo, and came back plainer. I liked the Astra version better so I'm going to A/B test.

• The build-a-business job: Astra did far more with it. Basements are flooding across Des Moines, so I gave each model one paragraph: name, ideal customer, brand guide, homepage. Fable sent a homepage that was fine and forgettable. Astra sent a full brand guide, the homepage, and a hero image that went above and beyond.

• The writing job: Fable won and it wasn't close. Aaron fed both models 17 handwritten pages in a PDF and asked for a long-form piece. Fable had the better structure and a real hook. Then the catch: just reading the PDF took Fable longer than Astra took to finish the whole job.

My takeaway? GPT-6 Astra gets the slight edge from me over Fable after I saw the results from these tests.

I still really like Fable and use it constantly. That's why I run out of weekly usage all the time. It's also the only thing Anthropic has going for it right now. Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku all suck.

So I'm keeping both. Astra and Fable get the work that has to land. GPT-5.6 Sol is my worker bee for most daily driver tasks, like the drafts, edits, and rewrites I run all week.

If you're choosing between the two $100 plans, I'd go with ChatGPT Pro over Claude Max.

P.S. Stop stressing about 'switching' from Claude to ChatGPT. If you use an IDE (like VS Code) paired with good Skills like I do, then it doesn't matter. When the best AI model changes, I point the new one at the same files. With this setup I can run any AI coding agent I want and not stress about it.
