My New Ryan Doser Website is Live

I rebuilt my website (ryandoser.com) from scratch this week, and it's finally live.

The new site runs on Claude Code, GitHub, and Cloudflare. No developer, no page builder, and no annoying plugins fighting me every time I want to change something.

My current website stack of Claude Code + GitHub + Cloudflare + Astro Web Framework is the real deal!

I'm not a developer and I don't have a coding background. If you can talk to Claude, you can build your own site.

Why I Left WordPress & Website Builders for Good

I'm never touching WordPress, Webflow, Wix, or Squarespace ever again. Even the thought of 'WordPress' makes me want to bang my head against this keyboard lol.

Here's why I'm leaving website builders:

• I own every file. The whole website is code in a GitHub repository, not locked inside someone else's dashboard.
• Changes ship in seconds instead of wrestling a visual editor to move one box.
• It costs me almost nothing to host. No $23/mo Webflow plan creeping up every renewal.
• The whole build became a repeatable skill I can point at any site.

That last one is what got me curious, which leads into the fun part.

Can Open Source AI Beat Claude at Web Design?

Once the site was built with Claude, I wondered if a cheap open source model could redesign my website for a fraction of the price. So I put five of them head to head against Claude Opus.

Here's my honest take after testing all of them:

• The open source models are cheap. Some redesigned my homepage for as little as 2 cents versus roughly 5x more on Claude.
• Cheap shows up in the quality. Broken logos, dead opt-in buttons, and a mangled terminal element were common on the weaker ones.
• Kimi K3 was the best open source result at around 30 cents, but GPT-5.6 and Claude Opus still produced the cleanest layouts.

The takeaway: open source is great for fast, high volume low effort tasks, but I still trust Claude and GPT models right now for mission critical work.
