🛠️ 3 Ways to Create Claude Skills

• Method 1: Start From Scratch For those using AI with little context (which honestly, you shouldn't be doing). Use a detailed prompt with an example of your work, plus Anthropic's best practices documentation. Paste the output into a markdown file and drag it into your Claude Code skills folder.

• Method 2: Use Existing Context This is better. If you already have a Claude project, ChatGPT project, or Google Gem with all your instructions and files, you can pull from that context to create a more detailed skill. More context equals better results.
  ​
• Method 3: Skill Creator Inside Claude Code This is my favorite. I have a skill creator skill that helps me build other skills right inside Claude Code. It analyzes my past examples and creates something tailored. Anthropic offers their own version on GitHub too.

🤖 Why Skills are Better Than GPTs & Projects

Here's the thing most people miss: Claude Skills are basically instruction manuals that tell Claude Code exactly how to accomplish specific tasks. Think of them as SOPs for AI.

I currently have about 10-15 different skills in my setup for anti-slop, emails, social media, research, thumbnails, SEO, images, and more.

Each one gets better over time because I can update them in real-time with feedback.

When Claude Code produces something I don't like, I tell it to update the skill file going forward. It makes the edits instantly.

This instant feedback loop and versatility is what makes Skills so powerful.

No more going back and forth updating instructions and knowledge files like you would inside a GPT or Project. That process is tedious.

The best part? These skills aren't exclusive to Claude Code. You can use skill markdown files within Codex, Gemini CLI, or other AI coding agents.

Pro Tip: You need Claude Max ($100-200/month) to really get the most out of Claude Code. The $17/month Pro plan won't cut it for heavy usage. And if you're paying via APIs, your bill will rack up quickly.
